External HD Issues

Post by bhs_pirates »

well, i've already talked to lexon about about this one, but i couldn't get the pics to attach to an e-mail...

here's the deal:

DELL sent me an extra HD for my Notebook when my last HD crashed, and I get to keep both the replacement HD and the extra HD...I was going to turn it into an external 80 GB drive, so I bought the external exclosure...the only problem is, the connectors do not fit each other...they are the same length, and I'm sure I have the right 2.5" size...but they do not match...

This is the external exclosure connector:

That thing should just slide off of the drive. It is just an adapter.

ok guys, i got the HD in the exclosure, the LED is on, my computer detects the USB Mass Storage Device and installs everything, yet I can't access the drive in MY COMPUTER...it detects it in boot sequence and all that stuff, I can't see it when I open my computer...

what do i need to do?

You need to go into disk management and format it.

I would do it in FAT32.

NTFS has more security features in it and it will not work on Windows 98 and ME.
