What do you all think about this computer?

Post by 08aisaac »

So I have finally decided to save up some money and build a computer and this is what I have decided on.
Motherboard:
ASUS P5RD1-V ATX Intel Motherboard
Power Supply:
OCZ OCZ520ADJ 520W Power Supply
Processor:
intel Pentium 4 530J 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Processor
Memory:
OCZ Value Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Hard Drive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
Case:
COOLER MASTER PAC-T01-EK Black Computer Case

I might go with less RAM at first but eventually I would like to have a 6600gt, a few tornado's with a fan controller, an xp-90c with some artic silver 5. So what do you think. I might overclock in the future.

go with hthe seagate 250gb HDD its more bang for the buck unless u want speed then go with a raptor 10,000rpm hdd

Bad power suppliey

Bad mobo

CPU rip off just get a 2.8 and overclock to 3.2 or 4

Ram: unknown

how much money u got for the pc?

case ok a little costly

I will eventually get a bigger hard drive.

I like the power supply but I was also thinking about this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817103918
If not then reccomend me one.

I like the mobo because it's cheap and I will upgrade when I get a graphics card.

The RAM has timings that are semi low.

I might get a different CPU.

I have a cd burner and they are cheap anyway.

I have like $150 so far. Not very much but still.

I have a huge crt with tons of dead pixels. lol.

I know. but I should have the money within a month. So I want to start thinking aboput what I want. The LGA775 isn't going away any time soon and prices will be lower by the time I buy it.

idk. Around $500 maybe more depending on if I can get that job from my aunt or not. Mom says she will contribute $200 or something like that but not until I have that much at least.

I learned the hard way about generic power supplies. Go Antec or Enermax. I built my pc for about $700 initially. Then I threw in another $80 for the new power supply. So for a pretty cool comp for gaming, your looking about $750-800. Try Corsair or kingston Valueram memory. Its a good deal for what you get. I like the processor, I overclocked my 3.0ghz 775 to about 3.5 with no prob, but I backed it down to 3.375 just to be on the safe side. It runs all the games i have flawlessly so Im not worried. If your have two monitors available I definately recommend getting a video card with two female VGA ports so you can dual monitor. Some cards (like mine) support dual but only have one VGA input so I have to order a DVI-VGA converter so i can dual monitor. And just make sure you pick up plenty of fans. a few 80mm and maybe a 92 or 120 will keep you nice and cool.

One more thing. You might want to save up and get a 120 or 200 gig hard drive because it goes quick. I never thought I'd use more than 20 gig when I built my PC but now about 45% of my 120 gig drive is full. And once i get high speed net at college, i'll prolly be looking to add another hard drive.

yeah a bigger HDD is a must have... i didnt think i would fill up my 160 and i have exactly 8.06 gig left... LOL but then again when i get my movies in DivX ill have a bunch more space.. also for your needs i highly recomend a modular power supply....

Sapphire AMD HD6950 2gig

I have a 2.8 that is running at 3.5 right now. This chip is only 158 bucks at the moment. The board that you have listed is junk. You don't want the ATI chipset. Get something with the intel 915 or 925 chipset.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813127202

You can get the Corsair 1 gig kit with the same timings for only 79 bucks. I have seen it as low as 65.

If you want to go all out, get a new 955 chipset board and one of the dual core chips. They are neat!!

Pair it up with this board...
ASUS P5WD2

You would also have to go with DDR2

Dual core is the wave of the future!!
