Call JD. Need DIVX help

Post by thefordmccord »

Hey, what is the best method of converting DVDs to divx. I have never messed with it before and I figured you were the expert.

My way you need a firewall that's not windows, and you have to block my version of Dr. Divx from uploading its illegal key to there website, Nighthawks takes longer, is more complex but ultimately free.

Dr. Divx spells it all out for you and gives you pretty good results 80% of the time, i think 20% of the time I'm just a dip-shampoo anyways, but i get the wrong audio with the video, so I end up getting like French and have to do it all over.

You have the options of doing all sorts of things to the video without having to figure out pretty complex menus(I think, but i haven't really attempted to learn either)how Nighthawks way can be tweaked to your proffered settings. But Dr. Divx spells it out right there simple easy and clear. You want French audio it gives you the option (provided it exists on what you .AVI-ing) you want shampoo quality or dvd level the option is all there, look for a 2 hour movie to be 1.3 gigs more or less for the DVD picture, the second best is 700. Plus you have the option of doing one pass or two, one pass saves a heck of a lot of time but i having found a major difference between taking the second pass and not.

Sorry i dont have anything free(legal), and sorry i cant spell out nighthawks way, i just know he uses Gordain* Knot.... at least i think his way is legal lol

Hey!! Thanks for some direction. I found out that they have stopped making Dr Divx, but discovered that some people have gone and make an open source version of it. Dr. Divx 2.0!!

It is stupid easy to use and works great. Here it is for all to use!! I made a Divx of Benchwarmers last night and it looks and sounds great, but the audio is off by like a half a second. I will need to do a little tweaking on the settings I guess.

edit:
I discovered that it is not the video with the lag. Windows media player was wiggin out a bit. I need to burn it and see how it plays in my car.

Why is it better?? All that I can see is that it takes about 14 extra steps to make it work. If you can give me a good reason as to why your way is better that 3 clicks, then I will switch.

BTW, I burnt a copy of it and it plays perfect in my car. I can now put 4 or 5 movies on one DVD and keep it in my car!! The only thing that is strange is that the sub-titles always show up in the car. I guess I will just make sure I don't copy the sub-titles the next time.

The Dr. looks a little different in the OS version. The old one it took you step by step(8 clicks), this one everything is right there, it still spelled it out for you but like you said its 3 clicks.

Perhaps "14" extra steps to make it work the very first time... I use basically the exact same settings every single time so its opening up the program, selecting the file to convert, selecting the resolution, the codec (divx, xvid, x264) and then going.

Dr. Divx did it every time for me, i'm just a shampoo when it comes to paying attention to the audio I select.

ok so, this might be a little new/old but GK wins now. http://www.autogk.me.uk/ its auto GK so it a 4 step process and it does everything, plus VirtualDubmod supports multi core. on avg it takes the same amount of time as the OS Dr. divx does but its a lot nicer on my hard drives, and memory. Its also really easy to specify the file size.

When VDM runs it maxes out at 74% idk y.
